El 29 de octubre de 1923, la Constitución turca fue modificado y Turquía se convirtió en una república. Este declaró oficialmente la disolución del Imperio Otomano. Día de la República (Cumhuriyet Bayrami) se celebra en toda Turquía y Chipre, todos los años. Actos conmemorativos por lo general comienzan en la tarde del día anterior. Es un día especial para nosotros, así, los gobiernos y las escuelas cierran durante un día.
